A day with Dan
Job Title:
Graduate IT Support Engineer
How long have you been with Instant On IT (IOIT)?
7 months
What brought you to IOIT?
As soon as I completed my degree, I was keen to get started with my career and make my first step into the IT industry. Instant On IT became a perfect way for me to be exposed to new technologies and exercise what I have learnt during my studies.
What was your first impression of IOIT:
I was immediately impressed by the fast paced yet fun working environment in the office. This being my first IT role, I was very nervous, but everyone was really welcoming, and I have felt a part of the IOIT family since my very first day.
Describe a typical working day for you:
A typical day for me starts getting to the office nice and early for about 7.30am to make sure I am ahead of the busy day ahead. The morning starts with going through any support requests/ system alerts that we may have received during out of hours’ time. Then it’s a matter of investigating/fixing issues, processing administration requests and most important of all: providing excellent service to our clients. My current role is focused around being the first point of contact in the IOIT email/ticket system. This brings forward many exciting challenges and various aspects of IT to get involved in.
What is your favourite thing about the work you do?
As a graduate, I am always keen to expand my expertise and knowledge. Being exposed to the multiple systems we administer at IOIT allows me to learn something new every day. I can’t remember the last time I went home without learning something new about IT.
On a typical day, what do you have for lunch?
Working a minute away from Leather Lane means there is so much to choose from. Classic cheeseburger and chips is currently my favourite.
What are you most famous for at IOIT?
Triaging all incoming client requests and being the first point of contact for client email requests.
What makes a dream client?
A client that puts complete trust in IOIT as their IT support provider and always keen to develop their business by advancing in IT.
What area of IT interests you most?
IT Security and system administration
What has been your best memory during your time at IOIT so far (at work or at one of our social events)?
Completing my first ever 5K as part of the Great City Race. It wasn’t easy but raising money for 3 charities made it worth while.
Who really makes the best cup of tea in the office?
Tom and Amrit will have to share this honour.
