The latest on Cybercrime and the risk to UK businesses

The ‘Cyber Security Breaches Survey, 2017’ identified that just under 50% of all UK businesses identified at least one cybersecurity breach or attack in 2016. Add to this those businesses who were not aware that they have encountered a breach/ attack, and the figure is higher still.

Furthermore, the survey highlights that for some sectors the likelihood of becoming a victim of Cybercrime rises to over 60%, namely: administration, real estate, professional/scientific/ technical services, communications and the utility sector.

With full enforcement of the GDPR now reality, a security breach could have a more devastating effect than ever before, with firms potentially having to deal with an ICO investigation and large fines on top of reputational damage, and lost time or money caused by the Cyberattack itself.

Why Microsoft Office 365 for enhanced security?

Many of our clients have already embraced Office 365 as an easy to use, comprehensive platform that is highly secure:

Enabling productivity and flexibility

The office 365 portal is the central hub where licensed office applications can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, making it flexible and convenient for employees. This might include access to Email, Skype, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive and much more. Skype for Business provides instant messaging alternatives to email for quick internal communications, and many of our clients also benefit from straightforward file storage and sharing using SharePoint and OneDrive.

Office 365 not only removes capacity headaches associated with more traditional IT platforms, businesses benefit from a progressive platform – with continual developments being made to give businesses using Office 365 the best possible experience.

A secure GDPR compliant solution

Office 365 provides the tools that an agile business with mobile employees cries out for, whilst at the same time prioritising cybersecurity and data protection.

When selecting a third party data processor, security is no doubt of increased focus for you in a GDPR world. The security practices in place with Office 365 heavily support compliance with the GDPR, as well as assisting with certification to security schemes and standards, including Cyber Essentials and ISO 270001.  This gives you, your clients and your partners’ peace of mind.

Such a wealth of built-in security features is now available with Office 365 via Microsoft Azure, without individuals even needing to be aware of the protection in place – and we can only see such integrated security features developing further. Integration at this level makes the friction between security and usability of IT a thing of the past.
